Earlier this year, Brazilian retailer GPA (part of the French retail group, Casino) successfully spun off its cash and carry format, creating two separate retail businesses (GPA and Assaí). On October 15, 2021, GPA entered into a binding agreement and strategic transaction with Assaí to sell the majority of its hypermarkets, which will be converted to Assaí.
