For the first time, Loblaw has extended its Pane Fresco brand beyond its Fortinos banner, enabling the retailer to deliver a new proposition for bakery and prepared foods. We recently visited its flagship Toronto store to see how it continues to raise the bar in these areas.
We visited the latest concept from Loblaw’s discount supermarket format Maxi near Montreal. It offers an enhanced shopping experience while maintaining the low price position and supporting shoppers on a value-based mission.
We take a look at how Loblaw-owned, Shoppers Drug Mart, is encouraging senior shoppers to ‘age powerfully’ with its Wellwise format. See how the drugstore operator is catering for the growing number of over 65s living in Canada.
Almost seven years after it first opened, we revisited the flagship Loblaws Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto to see why this store remains a source of inspiration for global retailers.
Last year Loblaw launched a new look and feel for its core discount format, No Frills. We visited a recently opened store to see how the model is evolving and why the retailer is seeing an accelerated shift of shoppers towards its discount formats.

Loblaw continues to push ahead with the roll-out of its ‘Inspire’ store formats.  Recently it opened its smallest concept to date in Vancouver; we review how the retailer is blurring retail and foodservice in an urban environment.

Shoppers Drug Mart’s enhanced ‘beautyBOUTIQUE’ has been developed to offer shoppers an elevated prestige beauty experience. With a focus on premium brands, digital signage and new fragrance and dermatology areas, this concept raises the bar in drugstore and beauty retailing.

Loblaw has launched a new discount store concept in Canada, ‘Box by No Frills’. Based on its successful ‘No Frills’ soft-discount store format, this smaller-format store aims to offer a quick and convenient shopping experience in a no-frills environment. Offering an edited range of products, a strong private label offer and operating with an EDLP model, this concept offers something new and unique for the Canadian market.

Building on the success of its flagship store at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Loblaw has developed a number of smaller format stores in its image.  These include the Loblaws banner store at Queen and Portland  in the city, and its new Le Provigo Marche concept which has been developed for stores in Quebec.  The most recent evolution is its new CityMarket concept in Vancouver.  We took a visit to this store to understand what elements and learnings have been taken from the flagship store in Toronto, and how Loblaw’s food-focused formats could develop in the future.
