We recently visited one of Aldi's newer US stores to see how its fresh-led focus is brought to life. This includes increasing the amount of space dedicated to fresh foods by around 40% and an enhanced focus on ready-to-cook and organic fresh meats, fresh produce, convenient grab-and-go ranges and healthier options.

In 2018, discounter Dia launched the convenience-orientated banner Dia&Go with the aim to better cater for top-up missions and drive sales growth again. We recently visited a store in Madrid where we noticed the latest development in terms of products and display. The store also features the brand new private label Al Punto for food-to-go products.

In November 2020 Aldi Süd opened its largest store ever in Germany with a footprint of nearly 2,000 sq m . It features an enhanced bakery, am improved fresh produce area, Infarm vertical farming units and electronic shelf labels.

We visited one of Lidl's busiest store in Madrid, which sees more than 25,000 weekly shoppers. Being one of the largest stores in Spain, it stocks a range of more than 2,200 SKUs, 90% of which are private label products
