Wholesaler Bestway, the owner of the Bargain Booze and Wine Rack franchise formats, is understood to be trialing two new variant store formats as a means of extending the demographic reach of its off licence offer for independent retailers.
The new banners: BB’s and Tippl
BB’s is seen as a variant on the established Bargain Booze format, which, while referencing its link to Bargain Booze dials back the explicit value messaging with a view to making it more suitable for more affluent locations. In terms of offer, the BB’s range will offer more premium lines in beer, wine and spirits alongside a wider convenience range. Meanwhile Tippl is being developed as a variant of Wine Rack with broader appeal beyond a specialism in wine. With test stores soon to launch in Buxton, Derbyshire and Garforth near Leeds, respectively, these new format adaptations are designed to offer independent retailers a breadth of solutions for the needs of a wider range of locations and catchments.

‘BB’s was developed to keep the heritage of the Bargain Booze brand while also allowing for the brand to encompass a wider range of convenience categories. Bargain Booze has fantastic cut-through in areas that require a value proposition on core off licence lines, but BB’s is a model that can help the brand cut-through in other, more premium areas. Tippl is a similar concept but for Wine Rack. The Wine Rack name suggests even more limited ranging and Tippl allows us to offer a broader range of beers, wines and spirits as well as food options.’
