Carrefour: partnering to win in Europe

As Carrefour looks to partner with other organisations to win, including retailers and third party delivery firms, it has signed or expanded agreements across Europe.

Carrefour and Nordic cooperatives sign partnership agreement

Carrefour International Partnership and Coop Trading and its four affiliates from Finland (SOK), Denmark (Coop Denmark), Norway (Coop Norway) and Sweden (Coop Sweden) have signed a partnership agreement that will cover private label sourcing. The agreement will see the four cooperatives participating in the buying of Carrefour’s French, Italian and Spanish food and non-food private labels. The cooperatives will gain access to the private labels, which enable them to offer a differentiated range to shoppers, while also making the manufacturing and buying process more efficient.

Commenting on the partnership, SOK’s executive vice president, Arttu Laine, said: “There are two simultaneous, strong trends in consumption. On one hand, we are developing our selection of domestic and local food, while on the other hand, customers also want to enjoy global products affordably. These development directions exist simultaneously, and we want to respond to both of them.

Carrefour and brands help shoppers prepare healthy meals in France

In conjunction with five branded suppliers, Barilla, Bel, Danone, Savencia and Unilever, and several of their leading brands Carrefour has created balanced, gourmet recipes, all rated ‘A’ or ‘B’ according to Nutri-score. The recipes also use Carrefour’s private label products. The recipes will be available on a dedicated page on, with many available on promotion to make the recipes affordable. They are also working with highly popular recipe website ‘750g’, whose chefs will run three live cooking shows so shoppers can see and learn how to make the recipes live. The sessions will be live-streamed on 750g’s Facebook page.

Carrefour and Uber Eats boost partnership in France…

Carrefour and Uber Eats have launched a new service to enable shoppers to have orders delivered in less than 30 minutes. At the beginning of their partnership in April 2020, 15 Carrefour stores made their debut on Uber Eats’ app, enabling shoppers to buy from a range of 150 products initially. A month later, Carrefour doubled the number of products available to shoppers, while the service was extended to 100 stores.

As of the beginning of May 2021 Carrefour said 830 stores in nearly 170 urban areas were on Uber Eats, providing shoppers with more than 3,000 products, which can be delivered in 20 minutes, with some delivered in as little as 10 minutes. By the end of 2021, Carrefour said 1,000 stores will be available on the app, while the range available to shoppers will be extended to 5,000.

…as Carrefour Belgium extends Deliveroo partnership to Antwerp

From early May Carrefour Belgium has enabled shoppers in Antwerp to have their orders delivered by Deliveroo. Shoppers can choose from a range of nearly 1,200 products, including ready meals, fruits, vegetables, meat, milk, snacks, cleaning products, beer, other drinks, and basic baby or pet supplies. Orders will initially be fulfilled from the Carrefour Express on Ossenmarkt, while it is successful it will be extended to further stores in the city. Shoppers can choose to pick up their orders from the store, which will enable them to order via the app and collect their orders in 10 minutes. Shoppers do not have to pay a fee for the pick-up service.

Discussing the service’s launch, Carrefour Belgium’s director of innovation and partnership, Arnaud Lesne, said: “This partnership with Deliveroo gives us another opportunity to give our customers a taste of what the future of buying locally could be for us. Being creative and innovative means adding life to life. Our partnership with Deliveroo offers enormous potential to give new and existing customers more choice and flexibility in their decision when and how they want to shop at Carrefour.

Carrefour and Provera alliance given green light in Belgium

Belgium’s competition authority has said it no longer has any objections to the purchasing alliance between Carrefour Belgium and Provera following the two companies making allowances after objections from suppliers. Carrefour and Provera have agreed that in future purchasing will be done by a separate company, Interdis Belgium, while the exchange of information between the two parties will be monitored more closely.
