Casino-owned Cdiscount has set out several strategic initiatives as it aims to support ‘businesses to accelerate European ecommerce’.
Cdiscount launches ‘complete marketplace solution’…
As it looks to embed profitable and international growth Cdiscount has said it is using its online expertise to launch a B2B business, which it says provides a ‘complete marketplace solution’ including technology, offer and logistics. Cdiscount says its solution will support both physical and existing online retailers to advance their ecommerce activity.
Quoting figures from Digital Commerce 360, Cdiscount said marketplaces are driving global ecommerce growth. It says the trend is also viewable in Europe, as shoppers look for online retailers that provide the broadest range possible.
…Leveraging existing knowledge and skills
Given its longstanding expertise, Cdiscount will offer distributors and online specialists in France across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East:
- The creation of their marketplace with its technological platform and IA expertise
- Access to its catalogue of 100 million products, which are offered by 13,000 French and international qualified sellers
- Leading supply chain with its fulfilment solution, which is already used by more than 2,500 France-based and international sellers
- Day-to-day support to optimise marketplace activity (the recruitment of sellers, quality supervision etc.)
To support its expansion, Cdiscount could open new warehouses across Europe, if companies take up its offer to support the fulfilment and delivery of their products. This could be key if companies that already sell through the Cdiscount site decide to sell through the marketplaces that Cdiscount helps and supports through the initiative.
Commenting on the service’s launch, Cdiscount’s chief executive, Emmanuel Grenier, said: “ This new strategic pillar is a strong leverage for our international growth and profitability. It is as important as the launch of our marketplace 10 years ago. As a European digital leader, we are offering our expertise to distributors and pure players to enable them to develop their marketplace. Through the launch of this new activity, we are taking this technological, logistical and e-commerce proposal to the European level to contribute to the emergence of an alternative digital model.”
