The regional SPAR wholesaler for Scotland, CJ Lang has announced it is to extend a click & collect service both for retail customers within its SPAR symbol group network, but also for other non-SPAR retailers.  This will enable it to expand supply to meet the significantly elevated demand currently flowing through its afiliated network as well as the wider Scottish convenience sector.

Provides expandable capacity beyond delivery

As an exclusively delivered service wholesaler CJ Lang has found its ability to supply significantly increased order volumes restricted by the capacity limitations of its delivery fleet.  A click & collect service offers a simple work-around, enabling retailers to collect their own orders, as well as giving the wholesaler scope to tap into the incremental opportunities amongst other retailers needing to optimise their supply options in a market still wrestling with availability issues.

7-days a-week service on ambient and chilled lines

Originally launched on 10 June the click & collect service operates seven days a-week, offering a full ambient range and selected chilled lines.  Following its initial success CJ Lang will not extend the range, with further chilled lines in particular.  As well as operating everyday of the week the service also offers the benefit of short lead times, with orders received by 2.30pm available for collection from 6.00pm the same day.

Colin McLean, Chief Executive, CJ Lang commented:

‘(During the pandemic) Our distribution team has been doing a phenomenal job also providing a number of retail businesses outside of the SPAR network with product over the past 12 weeks. As a result we felt we could expand on this service and provide not only our existing independent SPAR retailers with a click and collect service but also allow other retail trade customers the opportunity to order and collect from our depot in Dundee.  We are doing all we can to support independent retailing in Scotland and as we work with a growing number of Scottish, UK and international suppliers, we have the ability to offer retail businesses an extensive product range.’
